STAGE PERFORMANCE

ARMENCHIK

Armenchik is the biggest, most popular Armenian Pop singer known throughout the world. I went to elementary school with him and have been friends for decades not knowing that later down the line we would be collaborating on projects. It was in 2005 when I first got asked to host his concert at the world renowned Kodak Theater in Hollywood. It was truly an adrenaline rush knowing I would be performing at such a famous landmark in front of a sold out crowd. I was asked to put an opening number together with choreography, music, dancers, and comedic routine. Although I already had my own following and fans that knew me as film and TV personality, this was my first time on stage as a host. Thank God people enjoyed it and until now I hear comments and generous remarks from people, but at first I was scared about it and didn’t know what to expect.

Following this successful event, many other shows were planned. The DVD sold worldwide which got me worldwide recognition. This led to another sold out show at the Kodak Theater a year after. The second show was similar in structure but with various changes. I had to come up with a brand new opening routine, comedic acts, choreography, and so forth. I hired dancers from Luna dance, an all girl dance group based in Glendale, CA.

In May of 2006, we were invited to do a concert in Armenia. I had no idea what I was in on! It was held at the most popular venue in Armenia, Hamalir, and had a sellout crowd of 14,000. It was a two-day in a row show. The last time I had set foot in that venue was when I was 4 years old when my sister had taken me there to see a concert. I remember wanting to perform on that stage. Who knew that decades later I would actually be performing on that same stage only this time my sister would be watching ME perform.

A month following our Armenia tour, we had an offer from Holland to fly in and do a show out there. So, we went to Holland...to bicycle land!! I had never seen or ridden so many bicycles in my entire life. Before our show date, we had plenty of time to site see and have fun with the crew. Every morning someone would do something outrageous to the rest of the people. The 15-hour flight was so long that I had to do something to kill time, so I took up a camera and pretended like I was a photographer and started asking people if they wanted their picture taken. We arrived to Holland and after doing the show, we had to take pictures with the fans and socialize for 3 hours. It was also very rewarding and pleasant when I saw our concert flyer posted on storefronts in Dutch (I think).

It was an honor for me to get up on the stage and perform in front of thousands of people two years in a row with Armenchik. The feeling is indescribable, especially when you get up on stage and hear the whole crowd yelling...it’s the moment that makes everything worthwhile.

DEMQ SHOW

DEMQ production was established in August of 1998 with a group of friends who wanted to bring laughter and smiles to the Armenian community. The original crew consisted of my three close friends and myself and slowly included other members. The show became an overnight success. The community grasped our message and delivery really quickly because there was nothing like it in our community where a bunch of young, up and coming kids got together and entertained huge crowds. We performed numerous sellout shows at the Alex Theater and Kodak Theater to name a few venues. The audience always favored me as the best from the group as far as a comedian and entertainer because I was the “wild one,” and that I “stood out.” They liked the fact that I pushed the envelope. I had no boundaries, which gave me plenty of room to do or say as I pleased and the people really favored this over the scripted material. Most of my skits were created and improvised on the spot. Even if I had a script, I would deliberately not follow it because sometimes spontaneous things would just happen. Most of my recognition within the Armenian community sprang from me being on this show. We had continuous success for about 6 years until I had to leave due to many offers and bigger dreams. The group is in existence today and continues its mission...
